Sunday, April 26. 2015Pacman 4.2.1 update needs manual intervention![]() On your next update pacman will be updated to version 4.2.1, which is the latest available by Arch Linux. You will notice that after this update is complete, on your following "sudo pacman -Syu" you will come across a warning: error: failed to initialize alpm library (database is incorrect version: /var/lib/pacman/) error: try running pacman-db-upgrade To fix this, please run as suggested: sudo pacman-db-upgrade After this pacman should continue working as usual. Pacman 4.2 and above will no longer treat symbolic links to directories as directories. If a package contains a file that would install to a location on the filesystem which is a symlink, the installation will fail. Some common locations of these type are: /sbin, /bin, /lib, /lib64, /usr/lib64, /var/run. You can test whether a directory is a symlink with the "file" command. We tried to catch all packages affected by this and fix them, but if you have an issue installing a package from the official repositories related to this update, please open a ticket on our bugtracker. If you maintain one of the failing packages on CCR, please verify that your package is not installing something into a symlinked directory. Feel free to ask for assistance on IRC or on the Forum regarding related packaging issues. Thursday, March 12. 2015Chakra 2015.03-Euler released![]() The Chakra team is happy to announce the third release of the Chakra Euler series. This is a maintenance release to fix some installation issues and provide all the updated packages that landed in the stable repositories since the previous release. The main new feature is that our ISO now supports booting and installing on UEFI systems! Please follow the instructions carefully on how to achieve this. We are aware that everybody is looking ahead into Plasma5 and we are working on the transition, but we believe it is too early for this to be shipped by default and decided to wait for a little bit longer until Plasma 5 has furthered matured and more KDE Applications have switched to Frameworks 5. This ISO ships with the following notable packages and updates: KDE Software: Core Packages: Tribe: Drivers: The extra repository, which is disabled by default, provides the must-have GTK-based applications and their dependencies. Kapudan, our desktop greeter which runs after the first boot, will allow you to enable it. Please have in mind that our installer, Tribe, does not currently officially support RAID, LVM and GPT, although you might find some workarounds in our forums. There are also limitations in detecting hybrid cards, so on some systems you might experience a black screen when rebooting after the installation. To workaround this one can install using the free drivers and then switch manually to the proprietary ones. To create reliable installation media, please follow the instructions on the wiki. Chakra ISO images do not support unetbootin and DVDs need to be burned at a speed no higher than 4×. The applications that have been ported to KDE Frameworks 5 will not be updated in Chakra, as they are being prepared to be included on the upcoming Plasma5 ISO. It already looks like Chakra will have a wonderful start for 2015 since our first Fundraising Campaign is very close to being complete, less than 3 weeks after launch, thanks to your very generous donations and support! This is a great opportunity to share with you some of Chakra's main goals for the next year: We can't make any guarantees, but we will sure try our best to deliver! Keep on enjoying Chakra! Tuesday, December 9. 2014Fundraising Campaign for 2015![]() Chakra is a completely community-based distribution and all our contributors and developers are working in their free time to provide it. The only expenses we have at the moment are for maintaining the main server, through which we provide you Chakra and all the surrounding services. Due to the generous sponsorship by Host1Plus, we get a significant discount for the server, with the final cost being around €84 ($100) per month, which sums up to €1000 ($1200) per year. But we need your help! Our goal is for Chakra to be funded by the people that use it, so it can be sustained in the long term and not be dependant on a person or company. If 100 users donated €10, this campaign would be over and Chakra would ensure sustainability for all of 2015 based entirely on its own community! If you want to support Chakra reach this goal, please take the time to donate to our Fundraising Campaign for 2015: |
